PAU Swimmers Shine: Gold and Bronze at Ludhiana Swimming Championship (2026)

Swimming Championships Unveil Hidden Talents and Future Stars

The Ludhiana District Sub-Junior and Junior Swimming Championship has once again showcased the talent and potential of young swimmers from across the region. This year's event, held at the Punjab Agricultural University Swimming Pool, featured a diverse range of swimmers, from seasoned club members to budding athletes just starting their journey.

One of the standout performances came from Chirag Negi of the PAU Club, who claimed the gold medal in the 400m freestyle (boys II) with a time of 5:40.8 seconds. His victory not only highlights his own prowess but also underscores the strength of the PAU Club in the swimming arena. Manntehveer Singh Deo from the Ludhiana Club secured the silver medal, while Bhavya Gupta from PAU Club took the bronze, further emphasizing the competitive spirit and talent within the local swimming community.

The championship also introduced a new category, Group-IV (10 years and under), designed to nurture young talent and foster grassroots development in swimming. This move is a testament to the organizers' commitment to identifying and nurturing the next generation of swimming stars. Balraj Sharma, secretary of the District Swimming Association, emphasized the importance of this initiative in discovering and nurturing hidden talents.

The meet was not just about individual achievements but also about team spirit and camaraderie. Swimmers from various clubs and educational institutions showcased their skills, with the Fin Flyers Club emerging as a strong contender. Kunwar, representing Fin Flyers, clinched the gold medal in the 800m freestyle (boys-IB) with a time of 12:00.7 seconds, while Aaradhya from the same club dominated the girls' 400m freestyle (group II), winning with a time of 6:35.94 seconds.

The championship also served as a platform for swimmers to secure their place in the upcoming Punjab State Swimming Championships. Apinder Singh Grewal, president of the association, announced that swimmers selected during this meet will represent Ludhiana in the 37th Punjab sub-junior, 49th junior, and 47th Senior Punjab State Swimming Championship, which will be held in Ferozepur from July 24 to July 26. This provides a significant opportunity for these young swimmers to showcase their skills on a larger stage and compete against the best in the state.

What makes this championship particularly exciting is the introduction of the Group-IV category, which not only encourages young talent but also strengthens the foundation of swimming in the region. By providing a platform for these young swimmers, the organizers are not just nurturing individual talents but also building a strong swimming community that will benefit the sport in the long term.

In my opinion, the Ludhiana District Sub-Junior and Junior Swimming Championship is more than just a competition; it's a celebration of the region's swimming talent and a platform for the future stars of the sport. The introduction of the Group-IV category is a forward-thinking move that will undoubtedly contribute to the development of swimming in Punjab. As the championship concludes, the focus now shifts to the state-level competition, where these young swimmers will have the chance to make their mark on a larger stage.
